Capitalism, immigration, Fresno, and Medicare4All—what do all of these things have in common?
The corona virus will spread faster and do more damage in Fresno due to “crisis” capitalism (that type of especially malevolent capitalism that feeds off manufactured scarcity during catastrophes), and the way the undocumented are being treated in Fresno county. We need Medicare4All.
We have already seen price gouging on things like hand sanitizer, rubbing alcohol, and cough and cold medicine. Capitalism loves itself a crisis—nothing like infinite demand to rake in the $$$$$.
We have already seen the White House implement prohibitions on using public health services if one is not a full citizen. So, many undocumented people end up paying the full cost out of their own pocket.

In Fresno county, many of our undocumented community members work in the fields, picking fruits and vegetables. Their wages are incredibly low, many will not be able to afford an out-of-pocket doctor’s visit. We have a huge chunk of our population unable to access medical care before it becomes severely symptomatic.
For those who continue to repeat the heartless motto of “why should they get healthcare and why should I have to pay for it?” ---well, if they don’t get healthcare, you will still have to pay for it; possibly with your own (and all of our) health. #Medicare4All
