The first-ever criminal trial of a former president went to the jury today, and now Donald Trump awaits his fate.
What could it mean for Trump’s campaign if the jury finds him guilty?
The former president has been setting low expectations outside the courtroom, complaining about the process and the judge and preparing his supporters for the likelihood of a conviction, which he will be sure to appeal if it comes. Meanwhile, since his campaigning is limited while he’s on trial, Trump has been holding events in New York and New Jersey, rallying voters in the South Bronx last weekend and focusing heavily on outreach to Latino and Black voters, boasting that he is pulling more of them away from the Democrats and President Biden.
For more on all of this, Doug Sovern, Bret Burkhart, and Patti Reising were joined by longtime California Republican political strategist Mike Madrid, who was one of the founders of the anti-Trump Lincoln Project. He is the author of the new book, The Latino Century: How America’s Largest Minority is Transforming Democracy, which comes out from Simon and Schuster on June 18th.
