2/23/2020Pastor Caleb Galloway"The Art of Waiting"Galatians 5:22-24; Psalm 40:1-3; Romans 5:3-5; 1 Timothy 1:15-17 ESVBiblical patience refers to being slow to anger, emotionally calm in the face of provocation or misfortune, and facing such trials without complaint. It's both passive and active: remaining calm, while persevering in the midst of difficulty. how does God produce patience in our lives? Through the gift of the Holy Spirit to empower us to endure, while also providing access to God, so we can seek his aid in the midst of tribulation.Galatians 5:22-24 English Standard Version (ESV)22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.Psalm 40:1-3 English Standard Version (ESV)My Help and My DelivererTo the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.40 I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry.2 He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog,and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure.3 He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God.Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.Romans 5:3-5 English Standard Version (ESV)3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.1 Timothy 1:15-17 English Standard Version (ESV)15 The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. 16 But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life. 17 To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever.[a] Amen.
