Widely considered to be the father of theoretical computer science and artificial intelligence, Alan Turing’s work led to some of the most important breakthroughs for the Allies in WWII. Complex and misunderstood, Turing was convicted of gross indecency in 1952 simply for being gay and, despite his massive contribution to Allied effort, he was forced to undergo chemical castration or face jail.
