The first debate of the gubernatorial recall campaign happens Wednesday night, but only four candidates will be on the debate stage, all of them Republicans. Governor Newsom declined to participate, front running Republican Larry Elder will be at a Bakersfield fundraiser instead, and Caitlyn Jenner is shooting a reality show in Australia. So that means just four men will be debating tonight at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley: Republicans Kevin Faulconer, John Cox, Kevin Kiley and Doug Ose. None of the other Democratic or independent candidates were invited.
For more on the debate and the recall race, KCBS Radio news anchors Eric Thomas and Patti Reising, and KCBS Politcal Reporter Doug Sovern were joined by Mike Madrid, longtime California Republican political consultant and one of the co-founders of the anti-Trump Lincoln Project during last year’s presidential campaign.
