Many people track the start of the  U.S. Thanksgiving holiday with a proclamation made by Abraham Lincoln, others go back further to 1789, when President George Washington issued a decree proclaiming November 26th as a day of Thanksgiving. Still others go back to the 1600s and the Pilgrims. It turns out, the call to give thanks – to embrace gratitude – goes back a couple thousand years before that.
