Crime remains a central focus in the City of Oakland. A recent string of robberies, assaults, and burglaries has left many worried about the safety of neighborhoods around the city. But the solution to rising crime isn't as clear, a stretched and understaffed Oakland Police Department as well as a debate over the role of police is driving the conversation.
