California's high speed rail project is making a detour that plans to take it to Sin City.
Governor Newsom was in Kern County to drive in a ceremonial spike marking the beginning of work laying a 22-mile stretch of track in the Central Valley.
He says officials are working on a plan to connect the project with a private-run service that's working on high-speed rail service between Southern California and Las Vegas. This project has been in the works since 2008.
With the Trump Administration soon taking over, the state could lose federal funding for the project. How is the governor remaining so confident that this will get done?
