With Melbourne’s extended 2020 lockdown keeping him apart from his band projects and sound recording studies, young multi-instrumentalist and producer Liam de Bruin found himself spending long days in his garage studio. There he was rapidly developing a new solo sound inspired by his growing 'obsession' (as he calls it) with the funky side of house music.
Current single 'Friday Evening' perfectly reveals Liam's MO. Drums, percussion, bass, guitar and keyboards all played live by Liam himself, then tightly packed into four minutes of funk from the producer's chair, combining the organic feel and sound of disco with the sensibilities of house. Inspired by the thriving live house scene in Melbourne, Liam has quickly gained the respect of some of his key inspirations including Close Counters, Horatio Luna, Teymori and Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange.
'Friday Evening' is the first taste of Liam's debut EP coming later in 2021 on vinyl and digital via Ennio Styles' eclectic label 'Heard and Felt'. A number of heavyweight remixes are also in the works from local and global producers.
