In an unprecedented show of political power, hundreds of Black leaders from around California descended on the state Capitol today to publicize their legislative priorities. The coalition wants the state to do more to address systemic racism, in everything from law enforcement to housing policy.
The rally was hosted by four different Black political organizations
from around the state, including the Bay Area, and they’re calling for the
legislature to pass a package of bills, and this goes way beyond the reparations
proposal put forward by the state commission on making restitution to
descendants of slaves and other 19th century Black Americans.
For more on this, KCBS Radio's political reporter Doug Sovern, along with Bret Burkhart and Patti Resing spoke with Tim Kornegay, Coalition Director of LiveFree California. That’s a networking organization for Black-led groups, and one of those who hosted today’s event at the Capitol.
