California remains in the midst of a lengthy drought and it looks like we're going to stay there, with a historically dry rainy season all but done and no more significant precipitation in sight. That could mean another devastating wildfire season, so Governor Newsom has just announced a new strategic plan to use more prescribed burns--what's known as "beneficial fire"--to reduce the fuel load and therefore the risk of catastrophic wildfires like the ones we've seen over the last five years. This plan comes from the governor's special task force on wildfire and forest resilience.
