DC United and MLS alum Carey Talley talks about his career and beyond in this half of the podcast.
Tim Van Horn & Brodee Scott chat with Carey about his soccer roots, which run deep in his family. Although he didn't earn a spot from an early soccer tryout, Talley made the team the next season. He hasn't looked back since!
Despite that initial setback, Talley became a standout on his club and high school teams. His strong work ethic and overall skill made him a valuable and versatile option on the pitch, earning him the chance to represent his country. He played for the United States Under 17, Under 20 and Under 23 teams. Several college scholarship offers followed.
After experience success and growth in his game at The University of North Carolina, Talley headed for his next challenge. Carey takes us inside Draft Day, and what it was like to be a rookie on a veteran-filled team, DC United.
He tasted team success early, as DC United defeated legendary Brazilian side Vasco da Gama to win the Copa Interamericana. That same year, United edged Toluca to win the CONCACAF Champions' Cup. Talley then got to raise the MLS Cup in 1999, defeating the LA Galaxy.
His reputation as a reliable passer and defender fueled a successful career that spanned over a decade.
Following his retirement Carey Talley, whose parents have played a major role in the creation of this region's largest soccer complex, is continuing to grow the game himself. He holds an "A" coaching license and is active in developing the next generation of players.
