The suspect in the Taiwanese church shooting in Orange County was charged with first degree murder for what authorities say was a politically motivated act of hate.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the country, President Biden met with families that have been torn apart by the mass shooting in a Black neighborhood supermarket in Buffalo.
Another week, another spate of horrific mass murders. These last two seemingly motivated by political hatred and, in the case of the Buffalo shooting, racism. Is there anything America can do to bring an end to the world’s worst rate of mass shootings, far beyond anything that happens in any other developed country, let alone, one of the richest in the world?
As usual, we are hearing somber words from lawmakers, thoughts and prayers for the most part, and calls for renewed legislation to control guns and reduce gun violence. However, it’s not likely any meaningful action will result, given the gridlock in Congress and the NRA’s firm grip on the Republican Party.
Many Californian political leaders have all called for more to be done to fight domestic terrorism, but what that really looks like, remains to be seen.
