Economists on Zoom Getting Coffee hosts Prof. Ran Abramitzky and Prof. Leah Boustan. Ran and Leah are leading economists with a joint research agenda on immigration to the United States from a historical perspective, and particularly, on the mass migration from Europe to the United States in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Their joint research has been published by the top journals and their work represent the gold standard of research on economic history. In this episode they share the main lessons from their work on immigration, as well as how they think their findings can inform immigration policy. We also discuss their upcoming book, and their advice for successful co-authorship!  


Ran Abramitzky is a Professor of Economics and the Senior Associate Dean of the Social Sciences at Stanford University. He is a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research and a senior fellow at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research. He is the former co-editor of Explorations in Economic History.  


Leah Boustan is a Professor of Economics at Princeton University, where she is also a faculty associate of the Industrial Relations Section. She is co-director of the Development of the American Economy Program at the National Bureau of Economic Research, and serves as co-editor at the Journal of Urban Economics and on the editorial board of the American Economic Review and of the Journal of Economic Perspectives.
