Car thefts have been increasing in California in recent years, and the city with the highest rate is right here in the Bay Area.

In Oakland, officials say there are now nearly 12 car thefts per 1,000 people, compared to Los Angeles, which has more than four times the population and about five people per 1,000 experiencing car theft.
