Welcome to The Daily Quote – a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, for April 13th. So, let’s talk about something important: your vocabulary. Today is National Scrabble Day – a day to celebrate the game that turns spelling into a battle of wits and makes you question if your cousin really knows what “Za” means.
It is a word, it means pizza and it counts as a word. I'm calling this one out... it isn't a word... it isn't even half a word.
ok... rant over.
Whether you play Scrabble to win or just to use all your tiles in one glorious 7-letter swoop, Scrabble reminds us how much power a single word can hold. And that leads perfectly into today’s quote from J.K. Rowling, who once said:
"Words are, in my not-so-humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic."
Now, whether or not you’ve been sorted into a Hogwarts house (I see you, Ravenclaws), this quote casts a pretty solid truth spell. Words can build worlds, inspire change, and, in the right hands—or on the right tiles—score you a 50-point bingo. Just think about it. Words can lift someone up or cut them down, spark a laugh or start a movement.
In Scrabble, they can also turn a dull game into a thrilling victory… assuming you’ve got a decent mix of vowels. So today, don’t just play with words. Appreciate them. Use them with purpose. Speak with kindness. Write with clarity. And maybe keep a list of obscure two-letter words on hand – trust me, you’ll thank me later.
I'm Andrew McGivern signing off for today but I'll be back tomorrow, same pod time, same pod station, with another Daily Quote.
