Thank you Lumba Kalumba for giving us a colourful insight into your journey in the political world. She is an Africana Woman with so much grace from Zambia.

Certainly during the Corona pandemic women across the world are proving how they are leaders of substance even through this crisis. Proving the relevance of our voices in the political space.

African women have traditionally had roles of political power which were diminished in the wake of colonialism.

Currently, the political culture is rife with greed, violence and an insatiable hunger for power. This is not an environment that is attractive for many capable women who may be suited to be in politics.

Together as men and women we need to work together to make a supportive and empowering space for women to thrive in politics.

Here are some suggestions:

- Political parties should have a induction training for all new members to learn about the history, the values and best practices

- Politicians should embrace eloquent and persuasive speech grounded on virtues to sway constituents as opposed to exerting power through physical and verbal violence.

- The political climate is a reflection of the leader. The trickle down effect. Just as greatness is contagious so is poison. Leaders need to operate from a position of service.
