We may gather from this that David's plight was very painful. -His bones,- he says, -were broken.- A flesh wound is painful - and who would not escape from it-- but here was a more serious injury, for the bone was reached, and completely crushed. No punishment was probably more cruel than that of breaking poor wretches alive upon the wheel, when a heavy bar of iron smashed the great bones of the arms and of the legs - the pain must have been excruciating to the last degree- but David declares that the mental anguish which he endured was comparable to such extreme agony.
