The field is set now for California’s recall election on September 14, with 46 names on the ballot as potential replacements, should voters oust Governor Newsom from office.
This weekend, the California Republican Party will meet to decide whether to endorse one of the challengers to Newsom, or whether to stay out of the fray. The latest polls show Governor Newsom with a lead, but not a huge one, and a lot may hinge on whether Democrats turn out to vote, and whether one of the Republican contenders catches fire the way Arnold Schwarzenegger did 18 years ago.
