Investigative journalist and anthropologist Scott Carney had a blow-out success with his traditionally published book What Doesn’t Kill Us—it was a New York Times bestseller that sold 150,000 copies.     So why would he make the switch from traditional to self with his latest book, The Wedge?     The long answer involves lawyers, shoddy editors, a good deal of hustle and just some old-fashioned common sense.
