Strongmen regimes have been identified as political regimes that have a totalitarian dictator or autocrat seeking to rule by fear and threat. These leaders are typically void of any democratic philosophy, although they may use a democratic structure to hide their authoritarian rule. Most notable strongmen regimes are Russian President, Vladimir Putin; Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi; Turkish President, Tayyip Erdogan, and North Korea's President, Kim Jung-un to name a few. Donald Trump idolizes these individuals and is seeking to turn his administration and this country into a mirror of these autocratic governments. So, the question becomes, if Barack Obama displayed these strongman characteristics and sought to harness complete power under his authority, would congress, the media, and the Rust Belt White America respond in the same manner as they have with Donald Trump?
