In this episode of 1050 Bascom, we were grateful to have the opportunity to interview, Prof. Dennis Dresang, Professor Emeritus in the Department of Political Science and the La Follette School of Public Affairs. In a long and distinguished career, Prof. Dresang, who served as Chair of the Political Science Department for two terms, has directed research and public service seminars at La Follette School for students interested in examining community health issues and youth violence. He also chaired two major gubernatorial task forces, and served on numerous tribal and local government commissions. He was research director for a policy initiative of Wisconsin's lieutenant governor to improve the status of women, and he was director of the Center for Wisconsin State, Local, and Tribal Governance. Professor Dresang is also the co-author of several books including Politics and Policy in American States and Communities, Public Personnel Management and Public Policy, Public Administration and most recently, Patrick J. Lucey: A Lasting Legacy. We asked Prof. Dresang about his time at UW-Madison both as a student and as a longstanding faculty member. Prof. Dresang shared with us his insights on polarization in Wisconsin politics and across the country and helped us put the most recent election cycle in a historical context.
