This week, California regulators released a sweeping proposal to require a boost in sales for zero-emission cars, the rules are in line with California's climate and air quality goals and would also enact a ban on new gas-powered cars by the year 2035.
The proposal will need to be adopted by the California Air Resources Board this summer to go into effect and stems from Governor Gavin Newsom's 2020 Executive Order which ordered the Board to end the sale of gas-powered cars by 2035.
To discuss further, KCBS Radio news anchors Patti Reising and Jeff Bell spoke with Dr. James Balmes, a Member of the California Air Resources Board and a Professor at the University of California Berkeley's School of Public Health.
