Is Oldschool SocialMedia dying? The bloom is certainly off the rose these days. Details in Is-OldSchool-SocialMedia-Dying?-Bob Davis Podcast 1141.
Even more we’re starting to see media regarding this issue.
Another key point is the user experience.
Notwithstanding the fact that Old School Social Media isn’t going away.
Accordingly I tell some stories about testing advertising on Facebook awhile back.
Concurrently there have been stories detailing lower and lower levels of engagement.
Firstly what is happening is younger demographics are moving to messaging apps, Instagram, Tik Tok and YouTube.
Of course that leaves older and older people using the Old School platforms.
In addition to Facebook one wonders what is up with Linkedin.
Along these lines I include a drop from a recent rant from a content creator about the jobs and so called business platform.
Users are wondering what the utility for Linked In is in the same fashion.
Another key point is the fact the small businesses often use these platforms to advertise their services.
For example trolls, bots and spam.
Not to mention negative comments.
Finally from time to time I talk about these kinds of issues.
With this purpose in mind another key reason to consider newer and different platforms are the algorithms.
In other words newer platforms help you find an audience.
However older platforms seem to think your content is enough to generate viewers and followers.
In this situation I spend a little time discussing how a small business actually generates clients and referrals.
In conclusion I feel these old school platforms in particular are socially corrosive.
For example I question whether these platforms are best for content creators and artists for obvious reasons.
All things considered I don’t know enough about software engineering to understand what is next…
But I would not mourn the loss of Facebook and Linked in…
And I gave up on Twitter/X a long time ago.
To summarize with the user experience on these platforms flat lining I don’t understand why businesses would want to be associated with them.
I believe all of the sudden we will see businesses starting to question whether the referrals they get are real people…
Or if they’re getting any referrals at all from these older social media platforms.
