The truth is that most businesses are too small be of interest to mainstream media, and this is the message shared by Caryn Marooney, co-founder and CEO of The Outcast Agency then VP of Global Comms at FB in a Techcrunch interview. But there is good news anyway for small business owners - it's called "owned media."
In America as an example, 92.47% of all companies are <24 people, 99.63% of all companies are <249 people. In other words most companies are so small that they aren't of interest to the media.
