On Thursday, Lawmakers returned to Jones Street to move forward in an aid package for those in Western North Carolina that have been impacted by Hurricane Helene as the legislature approved a new $604 million relief bill - this adds to the $273 million that was approved earlier this month. This move comes one day following Governor Roy Cooper's proposed $3.9 billion in disaster relief from the state as a response to the damage caused by Helene. The Governor also estimated the damage in Western North Carolina at around $53 billion and said the proposal yesterday would be used for costs that would not be covered by the federal government. With Chris Edwards to offer perspective on all of this is Buncombe County Senator Julie Mayfield.
