Alice McDermott is the author of the 2020 Centre County Reads selection Charming Billy. The book won the National Book Award for Fiction in 1998. Three of her books also have finalist for the Pulitzer Prize.McDermott was scheduled to visit the region in April, but her visit was postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
