While watching a documentary about Johnny Manziel, a stark but simple truth struck me. Manziel, despite having an incredible talent and natural drive, fell short of his potential. It made me realize that as entrepreneurs, we must not get so caught up in the pursuit of our next milestone that we forget to appreciate the journey.
I remember my daughter's words when she was just five and playing basketball, Mom, I really don't want to go to the game today. I asked her why, and her answer surprised me: Because I don't score any baskets. It doesn't even make sense for me to be there. That tiny conversation opened up a whole new perspective. I told her that it's not always about scoring but also about being present, participating and enjoying the game. That's what defines us, not just our victories but how we play the game.
When I started my business, it was hard being a solopreneur. I, too, was striving for the next big thing, wanting to do more, achieve more. Burnout was the inevitable result. But I learned a valuable lesson from it. Success isn't just about pushing for the next big thing. It's also about building connections, enjoying the moment, and appreciating the journey.
