4-H has deep roots in rural America. But times are changing as the rural/urban population shift prompts many organizations to revamp how they reach new members and provide programs. Debbie Nistler started her job as the Iowa 4-H program leader in the middle of 2019's Iowa State Fair. She did that on purpose. And since then, the shifts in stress have sharpened her staff, club leaderships and the position of 4-H in ways to prepare youth for lives of leadership and service.
