Promising and exciting new research is making a difference for comatose patients. The study involved over two hundred recent comatose patients. Scientists discovered a hidden consciousness in many of them. The study revealed what they call organized and fast frequencies in their brains while they slept. They call these bursts sleep spindles. They’re an indication patients can hear and understand what’s going on around them. And are significantly more likely to retain consciousness. Among the patients who have them three-quarters left the hospital with some form of consciousness. Over forty percent recovered some of their neurological function. This research gives new hope for families. Let’s pray it results in fewer patients being warehoused or left to die by intentional neglect.
