Can Romance and Culture connect? Romance in Colour is starting a new series, Writing in Colour, where we talk to authors of color from various backgrounds and locations, who are writing in the romance genre. We are highlighting the diversity of the genre and highlighting #Ownvoices with authors who are actively working to amplify writing that is unique, diverse, and most of all, romantic.
Jumbees, Carnival, Curry, and Roti. What do these have to do with romance? Well, according to author Natalie Peltier, they are as vital to her romances about her island of Trinidad as the story themselves. Natalie, who writes under NG Peltier, talked to me all the way from her home island, the twin republic of Trinidad and Tobago. We talked about what it is like living on the island, her romance influences, and her journey to getting her work published, agented, and on the submission tract. We also talked a lot about food (lol), soca, and how being a Trinidadian is vital to her own work's diversity.
In the Watching Romance segment, Tatianna talks Hollywood by Ryan Murphy (Netflix)
