Fear and loathing, a potent and perilous cocktail. When consumed by these powerful emotions, individuals can be motivated to bring great change or spiral into destructive patterns, harming themselves and those around them. Johnny Depp gave us a great, albeit extreme, showcasing of how an unchecked descent into paranoia and resentment can distort reality, leading to a profound sense of isolation and disillusionment. So, what then do we do when we encounter these unsettling forces, not just in a cinema seat, but within our sacred texts, or maybe more uncomfortably, within ourselves?This week at BCC, we explore fear and loathing in scripture. And just like Depp’s 1998 cult classic, our story has some adult-themed content. But, if we can find God at work in the most challenging stories of scripture, maybe we can find him at work in the most challenging parts of our lives.
