The Supreme Court heard oral arguments today on the constitutionality of Mississippi’s restrictive abortion law, which bans abortions after the 15th week of pregnancy.
The conservative justices who control the court seemed inclined to uphold the law, but the larger question is whether they might use this case to overturn Roe v Wade altogether.
If they do, that would mean states could once again outlaw abortion, and many are poised to do just that if Roe is reversed. That could mean a flood of pregnant women from other states into California, where abortion is certain to remain legal, at least for the foreseeable future.
