In all relationships, we have rules and expectations of how we think other people should operate. These make up our "manuals" (or instruction guides) for our relationships.

Usually, we don't tell other people what's in our manuals. We think they should just “know” how we want them to behave. 

Often, we're not even aware ourselves  that we have manuals or that they're causing us to suffer.
