The practice of $0 bail is coming to an end in Santa Clara County at the end of the month, ceasing a highly-contested system that put the bail for many misdemeanors and non violent crimes at $0.
And while advocates of the program argue cash bail reduces equity in the courts system, critics say it's a dangerous "get out of jail free card" for recidivists.
