When Rafael Nadal was hobbling around the Rod Laver Arena in January at this year’s Australian Open there seemed little doubt that this would be nothing more than a minor setback in a career that has seen plenty of injury downs followed by trophy-lifting highs.
He lost his match against Mackenzie McDonald but the clay season wasn’t far away and we all know how that normally pans out for the 22-time Grand Slam winner.
When the prognosis of a 6-8 week absence from the tour was revealed by Nadal in the aftermath of that defeat in Melbourne, the aforementioned thoughts seemed to have been confirmed.
Little did we know he would be giving a press conference five months later to explain we may never see him hit the heights of before again.
Talking Tennis spoke to Dr. Raj Brar - a Doctor of Physical Therapy, strength and conditioning specialist, movement & mechanics coach, sports scientist - to explain.
