This day in the life of Jesus reveals both Jesus’ power and his passion; he has power over the brokenness of our world, and he has passion to see people restored. These miracles reveal Jesus’ identity as the one bringing about God’s plan of restoration (see Isaiah 42, 61). They are signs that God’s kingdom has arrived. How we are to think about healing in our own day? We have to see it as both possible and providential. Ultimately, Jesus’ miracles give us a realistic perspective on life—they reveal life’s brokenness at its deepest level. However, they also give us hope. As Tim Keller says: “Jesus’s miracles are not just a challenge to our minds but a promise to our hearts that the world we all want is coming.”
