Richie is joined by Stuart Waiton PhD. Stuart is a writer, broadcaster and academic. These days he also chairs The Scottish Union For Education (SUE). Stuart has written a very interesting article in the latest SUE newsletter. In it, he discusses how some academics responded to the Hamas attack on Israel by declaring that "this is what decolonisation means."

In his article Stuart writes: "But it is not simply the fact that some academics support Hamas and their desire to kill Jews. It is the fact that schools and universities (as well as libraries and museums) are all promoting the need to ‘decolonise’. In schools and universities this comes in the form of policies that tell lecturers to ‘decolonise the curriculum’.

With many of our educators who promote the need to decolonise we find the one-dimensional and dehumanising idea that there are the privileged – whites (and Jews) – and the oppressed – black people (and Muslims) – and as a result, those, like the Israelis, who are defined as being privileged essentially deserve everything they get."
