We take a break today from the daily madness of the presidential campaign to talk
about an election that is still two years off, and that is the statewide election of
2026.
We’ve had many early-declaring candidates for Governor on this program
already and today, KCBS Political Reporter Doug Sovern spoke with a young man who has decided to run for Lieutenant Governor, and that is former Stockton Mayor Michael Tubbs.
Tubbs became a national star of the Democratic Party when he was elected Mayor at just 26 years old, Stockton’s first Black mayor and it's youngest. But like so many Stockton mayors, he fell victim to some pretty toxic local politics and was upset by a Republican challenger when he ran for re-election in 2020. Since then he’s been an advisor to Governor Newsom and now he’s throwing his hat in the ring for statewide office himself.
