Shipwreck was born Aloysius Kelly in the late 1800s. His early life was full of tragedy but he went on to live a daredevil life of adventure, which is how he ended up spending so much time in Kentucky, doing stunts on airplane wings and atop the Courier Journal building in Louisville.  Crowds of thousands gathered in the city to watch him perform.
