11/3/2019Pastor Rusty Milton"Bewitched Believers"Galatians 3:1-5 ESVIn Galatians 3, Paul reprimands the church for receiving the Spirit (and even partaking in miracles) by faith, yet nevertheless turning back to religious practices for certainty of salvation. Like the church in Galatia, we often turn back to religious observance as a means to feel secure in our salvation. But Paul's message is clear: we grow in Christ the same way we began--in faith. We enter Christianity by hearing the Gospel and responding by repenting through faith (Vs. 1-2), and grow spiritually through the daily application of the Gospel to our lives through faith (vs. 3). Have you looked to other things to complete you and make you feel like God accepts you and completes you?Galatians 3:1-6 English Standard Version (ESV)By Faith, or by Works of the Law?3 O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified. 2 Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith? 3 Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by[a] the flesh? 4 Did you suffer[b] so many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain? 5 Does he who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you do so by works of the law, or by hearing with faith— 6 just as Abraham “believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”?
