Pablo Escobar was a Colombian drug lord and narco terrorist, who was the founder and sole leader of the Medellín Cartel. Dubbed "The King of Cocaine," Escobar was arguably the wealthiest criminal in history, amassing an estimated net worth of US $60 billion by the time of his death in 1993. To many in Columbia, he was a hero who funded infrastructure and services for the poor. To others, he was a ruthless gangster who used his power to intimidate and terrorize a nation.
