Venezuelan-born Samuel Marino is one of only a handful of male sopranos in the world today. His natural vocal range allows him to sing parts originally written for castrati - male singers who were castrated to preserve their pre-pubescent voices, a practice abandoned in the 1800s. Their parts have since been delegated to female sopranos and mezzo sopranos. These parts are now for the first time in a very long time, being reclaimed by an adult male. Samuel is back in Australia performing with the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra.
