The race to replace Dianne Feinstein in the U-S Senate has
crystallized, now that Ro Khanna has decided not to join the fray. The Silicon Valley Congressman is all in for Barbara Lee now, boosting her candidacy with an online rally last night
Khanna announced early Sunday morning that he would take a pass on this Senate race and instead endorse Lee, his progressive Congressional colleague from Oakland. She was always the obvious pick for him if he decided not to run himself, and the longer he waited, the more likely it seemed that he would stay in the House and not run for Feinstein’s seat, which she will vacate after 2024.
He gave Lee an enthusiastic endorsement on Sunday, then immediately backed it up by holding a joint virtual rally on Zoom last night, and is already helping her with fundraising. Lee is playing catchup with the other two Democrats in the race, Representatives Katie Porter of Irvine and Adam Schiff of Los Angeles, both of whom have a big edge in terms of fundraising, name recognition and polling strength.
