I love your analogy of little kids and soccer! I coached my daughter's YMCA team several times in early grade school. I had no idea what I was doing but I decided to focus on two things. First, every kid had a ball at practice to learn control. Second, they had to learn to play both defensively and defensively. At first they all hated defence, but by the end, they all begged to be defence and loved passing the ball. We won every game including against the team with a coach that knew the game.
