There are a couple views people have of Jesus, who walked the earth 2000 years ago:
- He was a human being - and ONLY a human being. A good teacher, and a good example to follow.
- He was the divine in human form - a SUPERHUMAN. Sure, he was physically a person, but did he *really* get what it's like to be a mere human being?
As Christ followers, we tend to think of him as the latter. And certainly, he was the divine even as he lived on earth. But we can't forget that he was also FULLY human. Fully divine, and fully human. He experienced the pains and struggles that all humans do.
And this has a couple of implications for us:
1. It means that his call to be his apprentices isn't some outlandish, impossible standard. He was fully human as he lived on earth and loved its people, and we have the ability to love just as he did.
2. It means Jesus gets us. He knows what we're going through. Every pain, hurt, frustration, and struggle we go through... our Lord understands.
