Ai Weiwei is a contemporary artist best known for his tendency to be a thorn in the side of the Chinese government. His name is a blocked search term on some social media platforms, he was detained by the government, he destroyed and defaced ancient artworks, he modeled the Olympic stadium after a toilet seat, and he was a top rated blackjack player.
