Governor Newsom has been signing dozens of bills passed last week by the state legislature, but one big one remains on his desk, awaiting either his signature or his veto.
Everyone from President Biden to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is pressuring Newsom to sign this bill into law, but he has expressed deep reservations about the measure.
We are talking about AB2183, the Farmworkers voting rights bill, which would make it easier for farmworkers to vote to join a union. Governor Newsom vetoed a similar bill in the past, and he did not get all of the amendments he was seeking in this one, but he has been silent since it passed as to whether he will sign it or not.
Meanwhile, President Biden has come out with strong support, urging the governor to sign it, which is highly unusual.
