The first price you tell to your new customers sets the tone and sets expectations for future pricing, as well as the quality of your work. In your market, you may have to decide which category you want to be in: a) $100-$150 tuner or b) $300. Carl says he is always going to be that $300, higher-level tuner. And you can and should be that too. Charging higher relative to the going rate gives you a different edge. You are building an elite technician’s brand. The same goes for discounts. Giving away discounts opens you up to unwanted negotiations. The client thinks they can get away with asking to pay less and less.
