We are thrilled to welcome back our esteemed professor from the Film and Television department at CU Denver for another insightful discussion centered on film, writing, and the intricacies of the creative process.
Edward Tyndall hails from Durham, North Carolina, where he initially made his mark as the bassist for the punk band The Celibate Commandos in the 1980s. During his time in Durham, Tyndall also delved into the literary world, penning an underground political poetry series titled The Fruits of the Holy System.
Educated with a BA in History and Classical Civilization, Tyndall's journey took a pivotal turn when he received his commission as an Armor Officer in the US Army. This experience laid the foundation for his subsequent pursuit of an MFA in Film, propelling him into the world of cinematic storytelling.
His films, celebrated for their artistic merit, have garnered recognition on the international stage, screening at prestigious film festivals such as Tribeca and the London Film Festival. In addition, his screenplays have achieved notable success in top-tier competitions, including the Sundance Screenwriters Lab, the Denver Film Festival, the Oaxaca Film Festival, and the Screenwriters Conference at the Austin Film Festival.
Tyndall’s documentary projects have found their way to television audiences in both the US and Canada, with international distribution further amplifying their reach. Before joining the faculty at CU Denver, he played significant roles in the academic and cinematic community, serving as the Program Coordinator for the Media Production Program at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and as the Lead Programmer for the South Texas Cinematheque Screening Series.
Currently, at The University of Colorado Denver, Tyndall blends his practical filmmaking experience with his passion for teaching screenwriting, inspiring the next generation of creators in the film and television industry.
